Hmmmmm...this reminds me of someone....

Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

Blustery Sunset

OK, so it's not art by any means, but here's a pic of the sunset (over downtown Seattle) from a parking lot in Bellevue.

Fiery sky...pretty neat, huh?

The Fruits of our Labor

Last night, Randy, Sophie, Rob, Josh and Magic went out in the blustery night and learned to make sushi rolls.

The class was a lot of fun - and we learned what we went there to learn.

How to roll our own...sushi.

Sophie was the most excited of us all, and in typical Sophie fashion, her sushi rolls looked the best. The rest of us did fine too, but you know what your grandma says- they all taste the same no matter what they look like...lol.

It really isn't hard once you get the basics down and learn the tricks. And it's a lot of fun too. The biggest thing I took away from the class was the confidence to just do sushi at home. There isn't really any mystery to it. I also have the confidence to put just about anything I darn well want into a roll.

Want to put raw fish in there? OK - make sure it's good fish, but go ahead.
How about just veggies? Sure, no prob.
Hotdogs? Well...okay...if that makes you happy.

It doesn't really matter what you want to put in there as long as you want to eat it. And it can be a lot of fun on a social level to hang around with your friends, trying not to get covered in sticky rice, making your own rolls. I think that we all had a really good time - we sure laughed a lot - and isn't that point really? Getting together with the people you love, sharing your time and a meal, talking and laughing?

I think so...

If it's Tuesday, it must be Sushi

Tonight, a group of us is going to learn to roll sushi. It was actually my nephew's idea, and he put together a group of us to all go and learn together. I'm a little concerned about how it will all turn out - especially the part where we have to taste what we've made - but I'm thinking it'll be fun too. I suppose it doesn't have to be pretty to taste good...LOL.

Goofy isn't going. But you know that already.

In general, I like sushi, so learning to roll some of it myself seems like a good idea. At least the ones that are not too complicated and stuff. My sushi tastes lean toward uncomplicated anyway, so I think it'll be fun.

My favorite by far is the spicy tuna roll. Pedestrian by most standards, I'm sure, but I like it. We don't learn that one until class number two though, so we'll see.

I'm a relative newcomer to sushi. Didn't try it until sometime just after another nephew's wedding. I think we were waiting to go try it with someone more knowledgeable than we were - and once we did...yum.

I still do not like the idea of eel or octopus really. I see them diving, and it just seems icky. I've tried them both, and they are ok, but still...eww.

So...off to the sushi academy tonight...woohoo!

Monday was Mondayesque

Today I was busy as hell, and got not a lot of things actually done.

Every have one of those days?

I worked a lot, got a lot of things started, but very little actually done/finished/accomplished.

I kinda feel cheated.

Did so much and have so relatively little to show for it.

Well...except the messes I've left with incomplete/waiting for input projects that I need one more part, or piece or data point to finish. Too close to done to put entirely away, and yet not complete enough to call good.

I am grateful for the darkness in the den, and the relative invisibility of my efforts from the door. Once you get around to my side of the room, though, all bets are off.

So...tomorrow I try again...hoping I have something tangible to show for my efforts at the end of the day...

It's good to be optimistic ... lol.

Yay! New Month, New Perspective?

It's March already...hard to believe in some ways - not so much in others I guess.

It's still a little tired here at our place. Got a lot done yesterday, but mostly that was Goofy and Jim.

I'm tired mostly from being sick and tired (lol). But today, I've decided to forget about being tired and just get on with things.

It could also be the fact that we are heading back home to Maui the end of April - for my birthday ostensibly, but I don't care a ton about the motivation, just so long as there is diving involved. :D

And there will be diving...and visiting with friends both south and west.

Perhaps that is the reason for my elevated mood and disposition.

Who knows?

All I know is that I'm tired of being tired and I'm sick of being sick.

A new month, a new leaf, eh?

The Last Day of February

Geez...February has been kind of a miserable month around these parts.

Flu, colds, more flu...generally yukky.

And then I discovered Facebook and more specifically, Mafia Wars.

This is both good and bad.

It's good because I've been sick and it's something to do that was about at the energy level I've been able to rally.

It's bad because it's somewhat addictive.

Until now, I'd been unaware of my addictive tendencies. I'd played games online before, and I'd been easily able to walk away from it. Not that I was playing this 24/7 or anything, but more than I should have...I'd check in several times a day to see how my energy levels were - do a few jobs, pick a few fights, buy a few properties...you know...general "family" stuff.

I've decided that there are many far more productive things I can do with my time. And since I'm finally feeling better (still tired and achy, but better overall), I'm gonna do those things instead.

As February fades, so too does my time in the dungeons of war...

Looking forward to March...!

Finally! Something to blog about...

LOL.

Today, as most days, I had the television running in the background. Just kinda making noise I guess...

But today, I heard something that made me actually stop and listen for a moment. And then, I laughed out loud. A LOT.

This product, very real, was being discussed.

I could not believe it!

I have been joking about something like this for years - there are those in the family that could do with a little protection of this kind, and it's been a running joke between me and Goofy for...ever? LOL.

Basically, this product is a deodorizer for your pants. rotflol. Seriously.

I was thinking more toward pleasant scents to beautify rather than just eliminate, but whatever.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha

It's a good day when you can see people on TV talking about subtle butts...

hahahahahahaha

Happy Monday!
